Cell Type-specific Analysis of Human Interactome and Transcriptome

    Get PDF
Cells are the fundamental building block of complex tissues in higher-order organisms. These cells take different forms and shapes to perform a broad range of functions. What makes a cell uniquely eligible to perform a task, however, is not well-understood; neither is the defining characteristic that groups similar cells together to constitute a cell type. Even for known cell types, underlying pathways that mediate cell type-specific functionality are not readily available. These functions, in turn, contribute to cell type-specific susceptibility in various disorders

Appropriate building repair and maintenance strategies using multicriteria decision-making analysis – a Delphi study

    Get PDF
As an influential and significant factor in improving the service of building components and elements, maintenance plays an essential role in maintaining reliability, availability, and quality, as well as increasing efficiency and security. Therefore, how to define this maintenance system and determine the appropriate criteria and strategies for that play an important role in the cost and longevity of the buildings after construction and during their operation. The purpose of the article is to determine the effective criteria for evaluating buildings based on maintenance and repair (R&M) and finally determining the appropriate strategy for the maintenance of residential buildings, using multicriteria decision-making methods. These criteria were first identified by reviewing the literature and using the Delphi method to obtain the opinions of maintenance experts. The criteria were then prioritized, based on the SWARA method, and the results were compared and evaluated. Based on comparison, safety, health, environment, and proper utilisation were rated the top four criteria to consider for building R&M. Finally, using the VIKOR2 method, it was found that the breakdown maintenance (BM) and corrective maintenance (CM) strategies are the best strategies to use for the R&M of residential buildings

Iranian Journal of Child Neurology2011;5(4):1-9.ObjectiveAutistic disorder, Asperger syndrome, and PDD-Not Otherwise Specified are subsets of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), which are characterized by impairments in social communication and stereotyped behavior. This article reviews the prevalence, etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of ASDs in Iran.Materials & MethodsWe searched PubMed, ISI Web of Science, and 4 Iranian databases (IranPsych,IranMedex, Irandoc and Scientific Information Database (SID) to find Iranian studies on  ASDs. The results of 39 investigations, comprising original, review and editorial articles; proceedings; and available dissertations were categorized by prevalence, etiology, diagnosis, and treatment.ConclusionSeveral preliminary investigations have been done to evaluate the prevalence of ASDs, and risk factors and effective variables have been studied with regard to etiology. The diagnostic evaluation of ASDs, especially based on EEG, and several pharmacological and behavioral interventions for ASD have been implemented in Iran. Mental health, stress levels, and personality characteristics were examined in the parents of children with ASDs, which were focused on mothers.ReferencesFirst MB, Frances A, Pincus HA. Monitoring Spatio-temporal pattern of drought using multi-satellite data during the period 2000 - 2018 (Case study: Iran)

    Get PDF
Due to declining rainfall in the last two decades, drought has become a major problem in the world, especially in arid and semi-arid regions such as Iran, so monitoring and managing it is important. Remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) provide the ability to study various indicators to evaluate the types of droughts. So, in the present study, the drought of Iran using multi remote sensing indicators including precipitation condition index (PCI), temperature condition index (TCI), Vegetation Conditions Index (VCI), and the integrated under the heading the scaled drought condition Index (SDCI) during the statistical period 2000 to 2018 were evaluated. To evaluate the accuracy of the obtained results, these results were compared with the standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index (SPEI). The results of this study showed that the three indices of PCI, VCI, and TCI are well matched. The results of the SDCI index indicated that severe droughts occurred in 2000, 2008, and 2017, which are consistent with SPEI index. It should be noted that minor differences between the two indicators (SDCI and SPEI) can be justified by the fact that the SPEI index is a climatic index that considers two parameters of temperature and precipitation for annual drought assessment, while the SDCI index in addition assessment to temperature and precipitation factors (‎meteorological drought), it also considers ‎agriculture drought and more comprehensively evaluates drought. Finally, it can be mentioned that based on the calculations performed, the SDCI has been more effective in assessing drought than other indicators used

Introduction. Systematic evaluation is an integral part of the organization and delivery of community oral health care programmes, ensuring the effectiveness of these community-based interventions. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and practice of primary health care (PHC) personnel regarding their duties toward oral health. Methods and Material. A cross-sectional study was carried out among three groups of PHC personnel in the city of Kerman (Iran). Volunteer personnel completed a piloted questionnaire which included demographic data, some question regarding their knowledge about oral health, their duties and also their practice regarding public oral health. All data were analyzed using chi-square and Pearson correlation test. Results. One hundred and fifty-seven out of 225 eligible personnel participated in the study. Sixty percent were auxiliary health workers (Behvarz). All personnel had a good level of knowledge regarding oral health. Despite significant differences among the knowledge of the personnel toward oral health, there was no significant difference between their knowledge related to their duties regarding oral health. The auxiliary health worker group had a higher rate (45.6%) for better public oral health practice. Conclusion. The study showed the personnel have good knowledge of their duties regarding oral health. However, their practice is not in line with their knowledge and needs more attention

Successful Management of an Aluminum Phosphide Poisoned Patient Following Ventricular Tachycardia

Aluminum Phosphide (ALP) poisoning is regarded as fatal; however, it is commonly used indeveloping countries. In some countries, such as India and Iran, it is still being used to protectgrain against pests at home. As yet, no known antidote is reported to be effective against ALPpoisoning. ALP acts through blockage of cell respiration, alteration of cell permeability, andinduction of oxidative stress. Some factors can worsen the prognosis of its intoxication, whichinclude hyperglycemia on admission, ingestion of fresh tablets, cardiac abnormality, especiallyVentricular Tachycardia (VT), severe metabolic acidosis, cardiogenic shock and other typesof shocks, electrolyte disturbances, end-organ damage, and a need for mechanical ventilation.ALP kills its victims by induction of multi-organ failure. In this study, we controlled the patient’s VT using MgSO4, electric shock, amiodarone, andlidocaine. We also encountered the cardiogenic shock using norepinephrine, High-Dose Insulin(HDI), antioxidants, sodium bicarbonate, and normal saline. Moreover, myocardial ischemia, recurrent VTs, and adverse cardiac effects were protected via tight control of magnesium andother electrolytes

Effect of long-term exposure to mobile phone radiation on alpha-Int1 gene sequence of Candida albicans

AbstractOver the last decade, communication industries have witnessed a tremendous expansion, while, the biological effects of electromagnetic waves have not been fully elucidated. Current study aimed at evaluating the mutagenic effect of long-term exposure to 900-MHz radiation on alpha-Int1 gene sequences of Candida albicans. A standard 900MHz radiation generator was used for radiation. 10ml volumes from a stock suspension of C. albicans were transferred into 10 polystyrene tubes. Five tubes were exposed at 4°C to a fixed magnitude of radiation with different time periods of 10, 70, 210, 350 and 490h. The other 5 tubes were kept far enough from radiation. The samples underwent genomic DNA extraction. PCR amplification of alpha-Int1 gene sequence was done using one set of primers. PCR products were resolved using agarose gel electrophoresis and the nucleotide sequences were determined. All samples showed a clear electrophoretic band around 441bp and further sequencing revealed the amplified DNA segments are related to alpha-Int1 gene of the yeast. No mutations in the gene were seen in radiation exposed samples. Long-term exposure of the yeast to mobile phone radiation under the above mentioned conditions had no mutagenic effect on alpha-Int1 gene sequence
